Reunite With the Ones You Love
Canada's Family Sponsorship program lets citizens and permanent residents reunite with the people who matter most. You can sponsor a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, parents, grandparents, or other eligible relatives for Canadian permanent residence. As the sponsor, you'll need to meet income and eligibility requirements and commit to supporting your family member financially once they arrive.
Step 01
Confirm Your Eligibility & Submit a Sponsorship Application
As the sponsor, you must be at least 18 years old and either a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person registered under the Canadian Indian Act. If you're sponsoring a parent or grandparent, you'll also need to meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirement, based on your household size and recent Notice of Assessment (NOA) filings. You'll be required to sign an undertaking agreeing to financially support your family member for a set period — anywhere from 3 to 20 years, depending on the relationship. Once your eligibility is confirmed, we help you prepare and submit a complete sponsorship application to IRCC.
Step 02
Application Is Reviewed & Family Member Receives Permanent Residence
Once submitted, IRCC reviews the sponsorship application alongside the sponsored person's permanent residence application. This includes verifying proof of your relationship (marriage certificate, joint finances, photos, communication history), completing a medical exam, providing biometrics, and passing background and security checks. Processing times vary by relationship category, so accuracy and completeness matter — missing documents are the most common cause of delay. Once approved, your family member receives permanent residence and can join you in Canada.
How to Prepare for Family Sponsorship
Before you apply, gather strong evidence of a genuine relationship — marriage or birth certificates, joint bank statements, photos together, and a history of communication if you've been apart. If you're sponsoring parents or grandparents, you'll need recent Notice of Assessment (NOA) documents to prove you meet the income requirement, or you can explore the Super Visa as an alternative for extended visits.
